Stephan's work often utilizes dark but intriguing elements, often displaying an eternal duality that is present within all of us. Through his work he tries to uncover the harmony that is hidden within ourselves.
To illustrate his search of harmony and balance, he often uses natural elements such a flowers combined with living metals. His artisan approach to his work is a marriage between traditional sculpting and painting techniques, combined with cold hard digital algorithms.
The contrast within the designs, but also his approach to his work create an unique visual style that can not be duplicated
Through his work Stephan hopes to bring a renewed interest in romantiscm to his collectors. In a world where meaning perpetuates in everything we see, his work can perhaps simply serve as a solace in which we don't have to find meaning, but can just be.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist, I am deeply inspired by the ideals of the Pre-Raphaelites and the works of William Morris. Their philosophy of beauty and the integration of art into daily life is a guiding light in my own artistic pursuits. I strive to create works that showcase a balance between the seemingly disparate elements of mathematics, systems, patterns, and natural beauty.
One of the recurring themes in my work is the use of flowers as a symbol of natural beauty. Flowers have a unique ability to convey a sense of wonder and awe, as well as a deep connection to the natural world. They are both aesthetically pleasing and biologically complex, embodying the balance between structure and organic form that I strive to showcase in my work.
In my practice, I utilize a combination of procedural and generative techniques to produce my artworks, incorporating the precision and order of mathematical systems into my pieces. At the same time, I also employ artisanal 3D techniques to add an organic and hand-crafted touch to my works. This combination of mathematical and artisanal methods allows me to create pieces that are both intellectually stimulating and visually stunning.
Through my art, I aim to showcase the interconnectedness of all things and the beauty that can be found in the patterns and systems of the natural world. My use of flowers as a central theme serves as a reminder of the beauty and complexity that can be found in the world around us. My work invites the viewer to consider the balance between the mathematical and the organic, the structured and the free-flowing, and the abstract and the tangible.
I hope that my art inspires others to see the world in a new and exciting way and to appreciate the beauty that can be found in the intersection of seemingly disparate elements.
